Culture

压舱石 - Ballast Stones

A ballast stone was originally a heavy object placed at the bottom of a ship to keep it balanced. When a ship travels through wind and waves, suitable weight can reduce rocking and make the voyage steadier. Later, people also used it as a metaphor for a dependable force in a team or society. Such a force may not be the most visible, but it can provide support in difficult times.
