How Much Does the HSK Exam Cost? Fees by Level & Country

Each test centre publishes its own fees. The table shows them as listed on each centre's own page, checked on October 10, 2026. Most pages don't say which year or which exam version a fee is for, so confirm the amount with your centre before you pay. At every centre below, the fee rises with the level.

Vienna is the only centre we found that lists HSK 3.0 fees, and they are the same as its HSK 2.0 fees. We couldn't open a test centre's own fee page for India, Pakistan or Russia, so those countries aren't listed; ask your nearest centre.

What about HSK 3.0 pricing?

HSK 3.0 (three stages, nine levels) launches worldwide on December 13, 2026, according to Chinese Testing International. The launch notice does not list fees, and centres set their own. One clue comes from the September 2026 trial: there, CTI's notice said levels 3–6 had to be booked together with the matching speaking test, at the same price as the old HSK level plus the matching HSKK. Paper-based vs internet-based HSK

Many test centers offer HSK in two formats: on paper and on a computer. CTI's test calendar lists both for most dates. Ask your centre whether its fee differs by format. The practical differences are how you write and how fast your results come.

One thing to weigh: on the internet-based test you type characters using pinyin, so you only need to recognize the right character, not produce it from memory. On paper you handwrite, which tests recall more strictly. Practice in the same format you'll be tested in.

How long does it take to get HSK results?

In CTI's 2026 test calendar, results for the computer test come out about 2 weeks after the exam, and paper results about 4 weeks after (a week later when a public holiday falls in between). You check your score online at chinesetest.cn. When the printed score report reaches you depends on your test centre, so ask them.

How long is an HSK certificate valid?

Chinese Testing International says HSK scores are valid for 2 years from the exam date. Universities apply that window: Fudan University, for example, accepts an HSK score only within two years of the test date. CTI does not say anything official about the certificate beyond that two-year rule. If you need HSK for an application, time your test so the score is still inside the two-year window when you apply, and check what the institution accepts.

Is the HSK exam fee worth it?

For many learners the fee is small next to what a score can open up: university admission, scholarships (the Chinese Government Scholarship normally asks Chinese-taught master's and PhD applicants for at least HSK 4), points on a China work-permit application, and a verifiable line on a CV. If you're learning purely for yourself, the exam is optional: HSK University is free to start, and mock tests let you measure progress before you pay for the real exam.   Each test centre sets its own fee. At the centres we checked in October 2026, HSK 1 cost $25 in the US, £10–£13 in the UK and €20–€45 in Austria, Germany and Spain, and HSK 6 cost $75, £60–£80 and €85–€140. Some centres charge the spoken HSKK separately; others include it from HSK 3.

• Why does HSK 6 cost more than HSK 1?

  Higher levels are longer exams, and at every centre we checked the fee rises with the level, though by different steps: $10 a level in Murfreesboro, £10 in Sheffield, and pairs of levels at the same price in Heidelberg.

• Is the internet-based HSK cheaper than the paper test?

  It depends on the centre. Most centres we checked list one fee, but Munich adds a €50 service fee for its computer-based HSK 5 and 6. Computer-test results also come faster: about 2 weeks, against about 4 for paper.
